Senior Alaysia Freetly led an outstanding performance by the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd girls' cross country team Saturday at the Mega Meet in Milaca.
Freetly edged out junior Maria Eastman of Holy Family Catholic to place first out of 146 runners in the Class AA race. Freetly finished in 15:13.20, while Eastman crossed the finish line just 4/10 of a second behind at 15:13.60.
The Eagles placed all five of its top runners in the top 25 overall to win the team title with 71 points. Fairmont earned 95 points to finish second, followed by Perham (119), Minnehaha Academy (143) and Canby (153).
LQPV/DB runners Jordyn Sterud (16:05) and Grace Heglund (16:11) nearly crossed the line together, finishing in 17th and 18th respectively. Sadie Thompson (16:16) and Sydney Giese (16:22) placed 22nd and 25th to earn team points for the Eagles. Sydney Batunek (16:53) finished 43rd and Kelly Kvaal (17:10) was 51st for the Eagles.
In the boys' AA competition, Lac qui parle/Dawson-Boyd placed 14th with 374 points.
Martin County West finished first with 83 points. Perham was second with 112, with St. Cloud Cathedral (136), Canby/Minneota (140) and Holy Family Catholic (150) rounding out the top five.
Keiser Freetly led the Eagles by placing 19th out of 181 runners with a time of 17:32. Also scoring for LQPV/DB were John Wagner (34th/17:47), Blake Trygestad (97th/19:09), Stephen Martin (125th/19:51) and Braxton Thompson (129th/19:52). Jacob Willis (20:48) and Trystan Bukowski (21:05) also competed, placing 147th and 153rd respectively.
