Warriors Defeat Wolverines

By Kyle Gylsen/Torey Issendorf - Graceville

After opening the season the night before on the road, the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley girls’ basketball team hosted Wheaton Friday night in the Wolverines’ home opener.

“The Warriors are picked to be one of the top teams in the section this year and they proved why,” commented C-G-B head coach Torey Issendorf.

The Warriors’ full court pressure kept C-G-B out of its offensive sets in the first half, which resulted in the Wolverines getting only 12 shots total for the half.

Wheaton would go on to win 67-30.

“Same as the night before in Battle Lake, we played a much better second half,” Issendorf said.  “One thing I like about this group of girls is they never give up.  We came out in the second half and played much better on both ends of the floor.   Kendra (Gilsdorf) did a nice job of attacking the basket and finding the open shooters.  Callie Vold and Tylaina Issendorf both hit two three pointers to give us a boost.”

Gilsdorf led the C-G-B  scoring with 12, followed by Vold with 10.  Gilsdorf and Kayla Moberg had four rebounds apiece.  Moberg also scored two points, while Tylaina Issendorf added six.

Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley shot 12 for 33 (36%) from the field and 1 for 7 (14%) from the line.

“As we move forward, we have to increase our shot totals each night,” Coach Issendorf added.
