Record Numbers For Fall Clay Target League

By Kyle Gylsen

A record 2,590 student-athletes representing 111 high school shooting sport teams will compete for six weeks this fall in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League.

Co-ed and adaptive student athletes will participate at shooting ranges throughout Minnesota.

“The 2015 fall league has grown by 30 teams and more than 800 student athletes from last year,” Jim Sable, Executive Director of the MSHSCTL, said. “This year’s increase in participation is a reflection of the tremendous growth seen in the league’s spring season that hosted 8,600 student athletes representing 268 teams.”

According to MSHSCTL Vice President John Nelson, the growth of the league is continuing.

“We’ve already had more than 10 new teams form over the summer for the 2016 spring season and that will continue until March 1,” he said. “Along with the expansion of existing teams, we expect to see over 10,000 student athletes participating this spring in Minnesota’s fastest-growing and safest high school sport.”

The team score and overall standing are calculated by adding the earned points from qualifying athletes and posted on the MSHSCTL’s website. Athletes and their families track their individual and team performance on their phone, tablet or computer via the Shooter Performance Tracker.
