Cougar football scores 26 second half points in win over Crown

The University of Minnesota-Morris led 12-10 at halftime Saturday in St. Bonifacius and then scored 12 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth on the way to a 38-10 win over Crown College in college football action.
The Cougars scored on three of their first four possessions in the second half and four of the seven times they had the ball.
Donnay Green (Sr. Chicago, IL) got his record setting day going with the first of three touchdown’s on a four yard run to cap a nine play, 34 yard drive to give UMM a 6-0 lead with 6:50 to go in quarter number one.
A two-point conversion pass was intercepted so Minnesota-Morris had the first lead of the game.
Crown would take a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter and Brent Tisl would connect on a 32 yard field goal early in the second to put the Storm on top 10-6.
But that would be the final points of the day for Crown as the Cougars would score 32 unanswered points.
Donnay Green’s three yard run with 5:35 left in the first half gave the Cougars the lead for good at 12-10, as the two point conversion failed and UMM would lead 12-10 at the half.
A 44 yard touchdown run by Donnay Green 60 seconds into the third quarter not only gave UMM an 18-10 lead, but Green became the all time leading rusher in Cougar history as he needed just 103 yards entering the game to tie the career rushing record set by Bill Magnuson from 1986-89 of 2,872.
The 49 yard scoring run gave Green 126 yards for the day at that point and he became the career rushing leader at Minnesota-Morris.
Anthony Ekren (Sr. Morris, MN) would finish a 14 play 86 yard drive for Minesota-Morris with a one yard run with 5:52 left in the third to make it 24-10 in favor of the Cougars.
Ekren would connect with Patrick Collins (So. Milwaukee, WI) in a 25 yard scoring pass as the Cougars took a 30-10 lead with 8:44 left in the game. Ekren’s two point conversion pass to Terrance McCray (Sr. Lafayette, LA) made it 32-10.
Jordan Roman (So. Milwaukee, WI) provided the final score of the game with a 52 yard run with 1:58 left to make the final score 38-10 in favor of the Cougars.
Donnay Green would finish with 236 yards on 34 carries and three touchdowns’ for UMM. He now has 3,005 yards in his career.
Jordan Roman had 141 yards on 18 carries and one TD.
The Cougars had 373 yards on the ground and 500 yards in total offense.
Leonard Matthais (Jr. Baudette, MN) led the defense with four solo tackles, two assisted tackles, one tackle for loss a fumble recovery and two interceptions.
Marty Hoffmann (Sr. Sleepy Eye, MN) had nine total tackles, Travis Destache (Jr. Mahtomedi, MN) had 8.5.
The Cougars are now 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and will play Blackburn College this Friday, October 29, at 2:00 in the 2004 UMAC Dome Day at the Metrodome.
Blackburn lost to Rockford 40-23 last Saturday and the Cougars defeated the Beavers 48-0 on October 2nd at UMM.
