On Tuesday, the Hancock Lady Owls traveled to Campbell to take on Campbell-Tintah-Fairmount and defeated them by a score of 61-45. The win puts Hancock at 14-7 on the season.
"It was kind of different going back to playing four quarters," said Hancock Head Coach Jodi Holleman. "Last year C-T-G participated in the Pheasant Conference and this year they joined a new conference in North Dakota. The girls played four excellent quarters of basketball. They did a great job of double teamming sophomore standout, Sammie Schmidt, in the paint and held her to ten points.
Hancock hit 38% (19/50) from the floor, including 8 of 21 from behind the 3-point arc, and made 15 of 19 free throw opportunities.
Tara Thielke scored 22 points to lead the Owls. Bree Holleman added 16, including 5 of 6 from the foul line and 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and Jenny Noordmans wound up with 11 points.
Stacie Cunningham led the rebounding effort for the Owls with ten boards and Thielke had nine. Thielke and Cunningham each had 5 assists and three steals.
"Stacie continues to crash the boards hard," noted Holleman. "It goes to show you that you don't have to be tall to rebound. Stacie is a whopping 5' 2", but plays like she is six feet tall."
Holleman praised her team's shooting prowess, "We lit it up from three-point range and the extra time the girls have been putting in on free throws is really showing up in the last five games."
Tuesday the Owls will host Wheaton-Herman-Norcross and on Thursday they will entertain Benson.
