North Dakota downs Cougars with strong first half

Shooting 55% from the field and out scoring Minnesota, Morris 57-25 in the first half on the way to a 92-66 win in non-conference menís basketball action Thursday night at the UMM P.E Center.

The Fighting Sioux scored the first nine points of the game in the first minute and a half before Adam Girtman (So. Prior Lake, MN) hit a 3-pointer to get the Cougars on the board.

The Cougars played much better in the second half and scored 41 points in the final 20 minutes. Minnesota, Morris (1-5) shot 56% from the field in the second half compared to 39% in the first half. And after having 15 first half turnovers, UMM committed just 10 in the second half.

The Cougars held their own on the boards as well against the much bigger Sioux as UND out rebounded UMM by just five at 37-32.

David Holler (So. Chanhassen, MN) played his best game of the season and maybe of his career against the like of 6-10, 241 lb Jerome Beasley who is being talked about as being a legitimate NBA prospect. Holler had his first double double of the season with a season high 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Adam Girtman had a season high 21, including a season best 3-4 from three point range.

The Cougars travel to St. Bonifacius to take on Crown College in at 7:30 game on Tuesday December 10 in a preview of a UMAC match up next year at the Purple Storm are members of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, the conference UMM will join next year.
