Phillip Schaefer ran for one touchdown and passed for another Friday night, but Hillcrest Lutheran Academy recorded a 34-14 victory over the Hancock Owls.
The Comets had 385 yards of total offense, including 256 on the ground. Reggie Undseth led Hillcrest with 170 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Jake Isaac completed 14 of 23 passes for 129 yards and one TD. Cameron Crider was the leading receiver, catching 4 passes for 46 yards.
Philip Schaefer scored the first touchdown of the night as Hancock took an 8-0 lead. Schaefer scored on an 11-yard run and then ran in the two-point conversion play.
Trailing 8-0 heading into the second quarter, the Comets got a pair of touchdowns from Undseth covering 4 yards and 17 yards. Jordan Foss was 1-for-2 on extra-point kicks and Hillcrest led 13-8 at the half.
In the third quarter, Underwood added two more scores as Undseth scored on a 6-yard run and then on a 15-yard run. Foss was perfect on those two extra-point tries, giving the Comets a 27-8 lead after three quarters.
Isaac completed the Hillcrest scoring by throwing an 11-yard pass to Mike Battillo for a touchdown. Foss booted the PAT.
Hancock scored the final points of the night when Schaefer completed a 45 yard TD pass to Noah Kannegiesser. Schaefer tossed for 130 yards, finding Kannegiesser on three passes for 76 yards.
