By Kyle Gylsen - Kerkhoven

Senior libero Alison Krieger was named the Most Valuable Player when the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg volleyball team awards were handed out recently.

The MVP honor capped an outstanding year for Krieger, one that saw her set Saints’ school records for digs in a season (460) and in a career (1,167).

Krieger was also given the team’s Hustle Award and was named Best Defensive Player.  She was selected for the Camden All-Conference team, along with fellow senior Kalli Forsell.

Forsell was named the Best Offensive Player after leading K-M-S with 238 kills.

Senior Libby Wilts received the Team Spirit and the Saint Award.  She also earned an Academic All-State Award for having a grade point average of 3.8 or higher.  Wilts’ GPA this fall was 3.83.

Junior MiKaylie Hagen was chosen as the Most Improved Player.

Statistician Morgan Collins was given the Team Spirit Award.  Statistician Andrea Olson was also recognized.

As a team, the Saints earned a Silver All-State Academic Award from the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association for having a 3.74 team GPA.  According to the MNVBCA, Team Academicawards are for teams whose team GPA is 3.50 or higher.  Teams with a GPA from 3.75-4.00 receive the Gold Academic Award.  Teams with a GPA from 3.50-3.74 receive the Silver Academic Award.  Team GPA's are calculated using the 10 highest cumulative and non-weighted GPA's on the section playoff roster.
