Tina Larson of Morris helped the Bemidji State University cross country team to a third place finish at the Valley City State University Invitational Friday.
Larson, a senior, turned in a time of 16:02 to place ninth individually and lead the Beaver contingent in the five-team, 4,000-meter race.
"I am very please with our performance today, but am excited to know that we have plenty of room to improve," commented head coach Craig Hougan. "It was a great was to start the season."
Tina is the daughter of Dan and Karla Larson. She is pursuing an early childhood and elementary education degree.
In addition to Larson, BSU had 11 runners compete in the event. Fellow senior Michelle Ohman (Prior Lake, Minn.) finished just one second behind Larson (16:03) to round out the top 10 runners. Freshman Emily Taylor (Bingham Lake, Minn.) posted a 16:45 to place 22nd in her first collegiate race, while Jolynne Denmon (Fr., Esko, Minn.) and Mackenzie Haupert (Jr., Andover, Minn.) completed the Beaversí scoring crossing the finish line in 29th and 30th, separated by just one second (17:05 and 17:06).
Concordia College captured the team title, with University of Minnesota-Morris in a close second. Bemidji State finished third in front of Jamestown College and the host, Valley City State University. In all 74 participants finished the race.

The Beavers return to action Sept. 7 when they host the Greenwood Run. The race is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn.
