Perham Boy's Golf Team Preview

The Perham boy’s golf team will open their season with an HOL Invitational at Birchwood G.C. in Pelican Rapids on April 16. They will host an invitational at Perham Lakeside on April 18.

Head Coach: Mike Kunza (3rd Season; Jr. High Golf Coach for 8 years).

Assistant Coach:  Paul Belka (Jr. High Golf Coach)

2014 Record: 2nd place in HOL Conference. Hawley won the HOL Championship.

2014 Playoff/Section results: 6th place out of 6 teams Nate Bormann – 81 – 17th place Eric Huus – 83 – 23rd place Blake Kunza – 86 – 29th place Ben Nelson 90 – 37th place Bryce Thompson – 106 – 45th place

2014 Section Champ:

Fergus Falls Section Champion

2015 Seniors:

Blake Kunza – All Conference 2013, 2014 Nate Bormann – All Conference 2014 Colin Gorath – All Conference 2014 Bryce Thompson -

Key Underclassmen: Eric Huss – All conference 2014 Ben Nelson – All conference 2014 Isaac Guck

Season Outlook: We should be very competitive in the conference. I would fully expect us to compete for the conference championship this. A big key to our success is going to be playing well starting with the first meet. With only 7 conference teams this year it is going to be extremely important to play well at each event.

Senior leadership is going to go a long way for our team as they teach the younger golfers how to carry themselves on the course through practice and preparation before meets. I would also expect us to compete at a high level at the sub-section meet in Park Rapids again and advance as a team to the Section tournament.

Conference Preview: Hawley is going to be the team to beat. They return the top two golfers in the conference Cody Cook and Andrew Cook (not brothers). Frazee will be much improved and is looking to jump up into the conference standings. Barnesville and DGF will also be much improved this season. Pelican Rapids is still going to be very young.

Section Preview: Crookston, Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes are going to be the favorites heading into the season.

Coaches Comment:  "I’m looking forward to another year with a great group of young men that should be very competitive. Hopefully by the end of the season we are going to be playing our best golf and compete for a section championship."

Perham Girl's Golf Team Preview

Head Coach: Cory Solberg (16th Season)

Assistant Coaches: Becky Butenhoff (1st year)

2014 Conference Champ: The Lady Jackets were Co-Champions with Pelican Rapids. Perham also won the 2013 title.

2014 Section Champ: Detroit Lakes won the 8AA title, and their 3rd Straight Class AA State Championship, as Kate Smith won her 3rd Straight Individual Championship.

2015 Seniors: Hannah Solberg

Key Underclassmen: Becca Huus (Jr.) HOL Golfer of the Year, State Tournament Participant; Liz Sonnenberg (Soph.) HOL All Conference; Danielle Graham (Jr.); Alisha Rosen (Fr.).

Season Outlook: Perham is still a very young team, but with a few key additions they will still be very competitive.  The HOL Conference Title will be very hard to win this year, but it is always one of their team goals.

Conference Preview: Pelican Rapids returns a lot of their players, so does Hawley and Frazee.  A very, very, tough conference this year.

Section Preview: We are in the toughest Section in the State; Detroit Lakes has been a powerhouse for years and will again field a strong team, they are tough.

Coaches Comment: “We have a great "team attitude", and we can't wait to get outside” Solberg said. “We are excited about getting better as a team and competing at the highest level.”

Frazee’s Alexis Parsons and Brittany Lormis both qualified for the Section Meet, where D.L.’s Kate Smith won her 3rd straight Individual State Championship.

2015 Seniors: Alexis Parsons (4-year letter-winner; 3-time MVP, including last season; 2-time All-Conference; and 4-time Section qualifier).

Key Underclassmen:

Brittany Lormis (Soph.) Three-time letter-winner, All-Conference last season, and Section Qualifier last season;

Maddisan Parsons (Soph.) Three-time letter-winner, All-Conference as an eighth grader, MVP as an eighth grader and earned the Most Dedicated award last season;

Sydney Dahlgren (Jr.) Three-time letter-winner.

Season Outlook: “We will rely on four returning letter-winners to lead us,” Conzemius said. “We have good experience with those four but not a lot of depth. We have four eighth graders out that will hopefully be ready to step up and fill some of the varsity openings this season.”

Conference Preview: Hawley, Pelican Rapids and Perham are easily the top three teams and will probably all win tournaments this spring.

Section Preview: Detroit Lakes is the team to beat, again.

Our goals this season are to improve as the year goes and have fun!”
